After much public concern over the name of the revamped World War II gallery space at the Former Ford Factory, the exhibition will now be called Surviving the Japanese Occupation: War and its Legacies.

This name change was announced by Communications and Information Minister Yaacob Ibrahim, who said, “I am sorry for the pain the name has caused.” In his statement, Dr Yaacob also mentioned that he had “reflected deeply” on this issue and “received many letters from Singaporeans of all races”. He ultimately made the decision to change the name to “honour and respect the feelings of those who suffered terribly and lost family members during the Japanese Occupation.”
