STGCC Celebrates Pop Culture & Comics

Published on 8 September 2017

The Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC) marks its 10th year with a bonanza of cosplay and gaming fun, exclusive merchandise, and famous personalities.

This year’s SGTCC is brimming with programmes and booths to occupy well, just about anyone, and is the go-to spot for some colourful weekend fun this week. And of course, if you’re part of the growing local toy, game and comic community in Singapore, it’s the perfect time to fawn over your favourite comic artists or pop culture icons as well as geek out over toys and games!

Get ready to pose at the Akiba Zone

Leon Chiro and Siu Tao

STGCC is where cosplayers love to roam, and the Akiba Zone is where you’ll find them all concentrated at. Inspired by Tokyo’s famous Electric Town, this is where you can grab photo opportunities with cosplayers dressed up in well-loved comic or movie characters, and get up close with famous cosplay personalities such as Leon Chiro and Siu Tao. If you decide to don a costume that day and experience a wardrobe malfunction, there’s even a costume repair service available at this zone.

Prepare for some massive toy shopping

Get your wallets out for some seriously adorable merchandise on sale at SGTCC. Hot Toys will be bringing in Toy Fair Exclusives such as Marvel collectible figurines, and who can resist Star Wars Tsum Tsum Tote Bags and tokodoki merchandise? ActionCity has also specially launched Mr Kiasu stylised art toys to tie in with the launch of the new comic book Mr Kiasu Everything Also Like Real (2017).

Check out the artists and their works

Besides the famous personalities such as Frank Cho, Takuya Fujima and Sonny Liew making an appearance at SGTCC, there’s also the Artist Galore where you can view (and buy) the works of indies and up-and-coming talents. In particular, look out for the booths of Rachta Lim and Collateral Damage Studios – we recently featured them in our September issue on anime illustrators!

Besides all these, don’t miss the Good Game Experience (GGXP) zone where there’ll be tournaments as well as a host of local and regional game publishers showcasing their new and unreleased games on-site. Have fun!

STGCC will be held from 9 – 10 September 2017 at Marina Bay Sands. Click here for more information.
