Many of us love the arts but can’t afford the time or don’t know where to start. Here’s a nifty guide of handpicked events which should give you a good flavour of Singapore’s busy arts scene.

Macbeth, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy transformed into a satire infused with Eastern aesthetics. Emerging young Chinese theatre director Huang Ying, together with renowned theatre icon Tadashi Suzuki as artistic director, creates a familiar yet refreshing presentation that at once stays true to the classic text while possessing a relevance to our age.

By day, Nicholas Foo is a civil servant, but by night (or whenever he sees the opportunity), he’s nicfoo, a photographic storygrapher. In this exhibition, he uses images taken in India to highlight the various identities that each of us have to balance and negotiate. His works will be presented with the music arrangements of Clarence Chung and graphic design by Phng Liying.

Homegrown artist Jane Lee often blurs the line between the two- and three-dimensional, print and painting and installation, with her visually stunning tactile works that combine various mediums in a meditation on the meaning of freedom.

To commemorate the 30th year of his songwriting journey, Singapore songwriter Chen Jiaming invites us into his world once again. Featuring a host of artists such as Olivia Ong, Jocie Guo, Joanna Dong, Janice Yan, Jim Lim, Cavin Soh, Ric Liu, Liu Ruizheng, Deng Shuxian, and MICappella, this milestone concert features songs that have touched our hearts, including Too Silly, About Love, Regret, Moonlight in the City, I Can Take Hardship, and Like A Swallow.
