Singaporean artist Jodi Tan expands
Singaporean artist Jodi Tan expands on her exploration of form and normative ideas of the ‘image’ into three-dimensional forms in ‘ROOM’. Experimenting with shape and colour to diversify context, connotation and readings of an image, Jodi works with screen-printing, collage, painting and even cross-stitching. Besides works from her Still Life, Sense of Order and Experimentations: Batch I series, Jodi introduces a brand-new Tree series, in which she responds to the idea of nature in urban spaces.
Still Life consists of positive and negative shapes rearranged in unconventional ways, toying with the idea of foreground and background. Sense of Order consists of four works exploring the medium and method of cross-stitching in organic forms that appear abstract and fluid. Jodi’s works frequently explore the idea of a natural element brought into a domestic environment.
SPRMRKT has teamed up with Jodi to create a set of specially produced “SPRMRKT x JODI” artist merchandise for the festive season, including coasters, gift cards, stickers, and gift wrapping paper. These products will be available for sale individually at SPRMRKT at STPI, or as part of a SPRMRKT Christmas Hamper.
Join Jodi as she opens the exhibition on 4 October evening at 7.30pm at SPRMRKT’s STPI location, where a special cake inspired by her artworks will be unveiled. The cake will only be available for the duration of ‘ROOM’, or while stocks last. ‘ROOM’ will run from 5 October 2018 to 2 January 2019.
