The DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) recently announced its new cohort of four scholars who are being primed to be design leaders and changemakers for design. The scholars are:

– Ms Poonsiriwong Yu Wen Rachel, who will pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interaction Design at California College of the Arts in the United States. She was actively involved in designing a stool for Team Singapore para-archer Syahidah Alim to sit on when he competes.

– Ms Rebekah Elza Ong Lin, who will read Bachelor of Arts (Hon) in Fashion Design and Development at the University of the Arts London in the United Kingdom (UK). Ong has designed a fall winter collection with elements of knitwear which mimics body temperature, movement and brain activity at each stage of the sleep cycle.

– Mr Shawn Ng Ding Xiang will study Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Design at the National University of Singapore. He was one of the three finalists for the Philips Design Award in 2015 for designing a modular leg prosthesis.

– Ms Teh Yu Xuan will embark on the Master in Architecture programme at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London in the UK. She designed “The Little Prince Film Studio” inspired by the well-loved story and explored how architecture interacts with daylight.

“Passion, tenacity, and creativity. These are the critical traits needed to be successful in a digital future, and these are the key attributes by which Dsg selects its scholars. We are proud of our scholars; they have upheld design values, and helped Singapore put its stamp on the world design stage,” said Ms Agnes Kwek, Executive Director, Dsg.

The DesignSingapore Scholarship, which started in 2005, has been awarded to a total of 51 scholars in design disciplines such as Architecture, Fashion Design, Interaction Design, Product Design and Visual Communications.
