Let’s celebrate all things GIF at one of the largest GIF events in Singapore!

The quirky GIF (or graphic interchange format) has become a staple on our social media platforms, and it’s about time there’s a proper event celebrating the ubiquitous visual loop as an artistic medium.

Noise Singapore has collaborated with creative agency Kult to present an immersive exhibition of 50 original GIFs that will be showcases through projections, large screens and secret rooms. The theme for this inaugural edition is “Spellbound”.

Some of these works were selected though an Open Call in August which received over 500 submissions. Says Steve Lawler, Creative Director of Kult International as well as founder and curator of the Festival, “The response to GIF Fest has been very positive. It seems to have captured the imagination of a whole wave of artists and amateurs. It’s been exciting to see them experimenting with new techniques and taking their work to the next level. Inspiring.”

So inspired till you want to create your own GIFs? Here’s where attending a 1.5 hour workshop on Saturday, 7 October by famous Instagram street photographer Aik Beng Chia will come in handy. He’ll be showing you how to create your own cinemagraphs, stereoscopic GIFs and plotagraphs so as to add more depth to your visual storytelling. Click here to register for this workshop.

The Festival will also be hosting other fringe programmes such as a “GIF and the art of storytelling” by BBH Singapore, a GIF making workshop for kids as well as performances by Syndicate (Kiat and Deborah Emmanuel) and electronic duo .gif (of course).
