Got to Move Pop-up Piano Playground by TRDO

The bi-annual Arts in Your Neighbourhood programme by the National Arts Council returns this month.

Arts in Your Neighbourhood (AYN) is all about bringing accessible arts activities to the heartlands this March so people of all ages, especially families and young children, will get to experience fun and inspiration through various art forms. Here’s what’s happening at this season’s town-of-focus, Ang Mo Kio! 

STOP AND SMELL THE ANG MOH DAN!

Stop and Smell the Ang Mo Dan! Kampong Days by Yip Yew Chong

8 – 25 March 2018
Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, Tech Ghee Court Market & Food Centre & Kebun Baru Market

This exhibition features four public artworks which get nostalgic about Ang Mo Kio’s past of rustic kampongs, farmlands, markets and rambutan trees. For example, Yip Yew Chong’s series of murals, “Reminiscing Ang Mo Kio”, features an old kitchen and bird singing clubs. The other artists presenting their works are Angie Seah, Chen Sai Hua Kuan and Lai Wei Min.

GOT TO MOVE POP-UP: PIANO PLAYGROUND BY TRDO (THE ROYAL DANCE-OFF)

Ang Mo Kio Central Stage

Create your own music while dancing on life-sized piano play mats! Here, you can create groovy tunes by hopping, skipping, jumping and galloping on the piano keys. There will also be exhilarating performances by contemporary dancers from TRDO.

NOMADIC ART CARAVAN BY LOPELAB

Nomadic Art Caravan by LOPELAB 5

24 – 25 March 2018, 5pm – 10.30pm
Open Carpark at Ang Mo Kio Central 2 (behind AMK Library)

The Nomadic Art Caravan will be transforming one of Ang Mo Kio’s busiest carparks into a mini festival ground celebrating music, dance and theatre. There will be performances, film screenings, interactive art installations, and larger-than-life heritage game sets. There will also be free sampling of salted egg-flavoured snacks during this event!

NADINE & THE ENCHANTING POTS BY SWEET TOOTH

Nadine & The Enchanting Pots by Sweet Tooth

Sat, 24 March 2018, 5pm – 5.30pm & 7pm – 7.30pm
Ang Mo Kio Central Stage

This special AYN commission is a delightful and heartwarming production involving puppetry, music and larger-than-life props in a kampong setting. The story revolves around a girl called Nadine and her three magical, melodious pots that bring harmony to her village. There are also adorable characters in this play such as Uncle Tapir, Glory the Chicken & Bandit the Tiger. Accompanying this performance are fringe activities such as arts and craft and a lalang maze.

THE DICAPELLA MAGIC FLUTE: WONDERS OF ANG MO KIO

The Dicapella Magic Flute_Wonders of Ang Mo Kio by Dicapella Dizi Ensemble

Ang Mo Kio Central Stage

Enjoy musical performances inspired by Ang Mo Kio with this special fusion ensemble featuring musicians from The Philharmonic Winds, Bhaskars Arts Academy and Dicapella Dizi Ensemble who are led by conductor Heng Xiangle. There will also be related carnival activities where participants will be armed with a magic flute and activity book as they find out more about the possible meaning behind the name “Ang Mo Kio”.
