SINGAPORE WRITERS FESTIVAL

The Arts House

The Singapore Writers Festival is one of the few multi-lingual literary festivals in the world, celebrating the written and spoken word in Singapore’s official languages – English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil. This year, the Festival will be housed in the Civic District amongst historic buildings such as The Arts House, The National Gallery and the Asian Civilisations Museum.

FINAL ACT OF DISCIPLINE THE CITY

The Substation

Expect more exploration of the politics of space with Act III of “Discipline the City”. This month features a short film, “Once more, with feeling” by Tan Pin Pin, Patricia Toh’s performance piece, “A Map of Scars, Bruises and Broken Bones”, and BLOCK 108, an interactive installation by Li Xie and Or Beng Kooi. Punk musicians Hafiz and Izzad Radzali Shah will be this month’s punks-in-residence at The Substation this month.

PERANAKAN GALLERY

Changi Airport Terminal 4

If you’re planning to check out the airport’s recently opened Terminal 4 over the weekend, why not drop by the Peranakan Gallery at the Departure Transit area? You’ll get an intimate glimpse of Peranakan culture with artefacts such as an antique wooden wedding bed and Peranakan porcelain and textiles on display. This gallery is a collaboration between Changi Airport Group and National Heritage Board.

WAN QING YUAN CULTURE FEST 2017

Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall

The annual signature festival at Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH) is back with over 60 fun and family-friendly programmes promoting Chinese heritage and culture. Don’t miss out on Wing Chun master Daryl Yeo’s martial arts class (4 Nov, 11am) or the public talk on Chinese Opera (11 Nov, 11am). There will also be games and snack booths along with guided tours during this period.

The artists featured scrutinise pretenses, imposed identities and personas through role-playing, code switching and self-fashioning. In doing so, they create new means to frame the world.
