CHINESE NEW YEAR 2018!

It’s all about celebrating the Year of the Dog over at the Singapore Philatelic Museum. Their latest “All About Dogs” exhibition is adorable with stamps from all over the world which feature man’s best friend.  There will also be a Puppy Craft Booth, a Chinese calligrapher writing auspicious couplets for you to bring home, a Feng Shui Master to give you tips on acing the Dog Year, and a Chinese Lion and Dragon Dance!

CHINESE NEW YEAR OPEN HOUSE AT SAM at 8Q

There’s plenty of festive fun happening over at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) with a Lion Dance Performance at 1.30pm, and fun craft workshops such as making your own Chinese New Year Shaker and creating a 3D Pop-Up House. You’ll also get a chance to meet Malik Mazlan, a Malay by heritage who is passionate about Chinese calligraphy. He will be doing demonstrations in the afternoon, and you’ll also have the chance to learn from him!

FREE GUIDED TOURS AT INDIAN HERITAGE CENTRE

16 – 18 Feb 2pm
Indian Heritage Centre (5 Campbell Lane)

If you haven’t been down to Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) yet, this is the perfect time to find out more about South Asian communities in the Southeast Asian region. Knowledgeable museum docents will be around this weekend to bring you on an enriching tour of the centre. The guided tour of the Permanent Gallery will take place at 2pm from 16 – 18 Feb, while the Special Exhibition guided tour will be on 17 Feb, 3.30pm. No prior registration is required – you just have to show up at the meeting point at IHC lobby, Level 1.

To check out some truly stunning lantern installations, head down to River Hong Bao where you can view 60 giant dazzling displays. There are also live performances, a glowing God of Fortune figure regularly spraying gold confetti, and fireworks that take place at 9pm daily. Besides all these, there are also an amusement park, a food street and traditional Chinese arts and crafts stalls to keep anyone of all ages entertained.

Gardens by the Bay

Expect another visual spectacle at Gardens by the Bay as it ushers in the Year of the Dog this weekend. Most notably, don’t miss out on “Rise of the Guardians” (17-18 Feb), an exciting ultraviolet light performance involving a UV Lotus Dragon and UV Northern lions. There will also be a God of Fortune Meet and Greet, Lion Dances on poles, and “A Pawsome Day” (Sun 18 Feb, 4.30pm – 6pm), where there’ll be a specially designed obstacle course for your canines to enjoy.
