SAM re-appointed to organise the Singapore Biennale in 2019 and 2022

The National Arts Council (NAC) has re-appointed the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) as the organiser for the next two editions of the Singapore Biennale, happening in 2019 and 2022. Ms. Rosa Daniel, CEO of NAC, said that SAM is a key cultural institution and arts leader that is well placed to present the upcoming editions of the festival.

Additionally, the Biennale Steering Committee, comprising representatives from the arts community, has appointed Patrick D. Flores as the Artistic Director for the 2019 edition of the Singapore Biennale. A Professor of Art Studies at the University of the Philippines, Mr. Flores is also an established art historian and a curator of the Vargas Museum in Manila, Philippines.

 

Silver Arts Open Call

Silver Arts has announced an Open Call for both seniors and youth to take part in 4 Community Arts Projects that will see seniors and the youth paired to make a team.

Mapping our lives (Seniors only) is a project that turns your life stories, goals and achievements into engaging personal maps and diagrams. Held between 18 May – 13 July, work on and learn more about your own life and the lives of others in this collaborative project.

magic mARkers (Seniors Only)  is about sharing the stories of your favourite childhood places and the memories you have of them. Between the 18 May – 28 July, let your experiences come back to life with the help of augmented and virtual reality tools.

 It’s a Happy, Happy World! (Seniors and Youths)  involves 15 seniors and 15 youths who will be paired up to work on a series of dance movement and storytelling workshops. Held between 2 June – 2 September , the workshops culminate in a live performance and an installation of 100 mirrors that will be displayed at Kampung Admiralty.

Pillow Dreams (Seniors only)  is a sculpture project held in collaboration with artist Stellah Lim. Held between 14 June – 17 August, join her to capture your own personal dreams onto a three-dimensional pillow and share your stories together with your partner.

The Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) announces the return of the SCCC Cultural Extravaganza

Held from 18 May –  10 June, the SCCC Cultural Extravaganza returns to celebrate Chinese culture and art forms.From a Chinese dance showcase, to enjoying an evening of laughter with Chinese comedians, and even an interactive escape room activity, soak in all the festivities while learning about Chinese culture through art! The event marks the first anniversary of the SCCC’s opening.

Kinky Boots comes to Singapore

Popular Broadway and Tony Award winning musical, Kinky Boots, will be gracing the Marina Bay Sands Theatre from the 5thto the 14thof October 2018. A play inspired by real life events, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price and his struggle to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family factory business of Price & Son. With the factory’s future hanging by a thread, help arrives in the form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola, and together they discover the beauty of friendship, and what it takes to make a great pair.

Postmodern Jukebox to perform in Singapore

Viral vintage pop sensation, Postmodern Jukebox, returns to Singapore for one night only on the 18thof September at the Kallang Theatre! A band that originally gained popularity online for their retro renditions of popular pop songs such as Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again”, Postmodern Jukebox has since garnered over 3.2 million subscribers on YouTube. The band, founded by Scott Bradlee, aims to take audiences on a musical journey through time!
