Local filmmaker Kirsten Tan’s POP AYE picked up yet another award – the Jury Prize at Bangkok ASEAN Film Festival.

“This award from Thailand is especially meaningful to me since the film is shot there and is my humble ode to the country…I’d like to dedicate this win to all my Thai actors, especially Thaneth Warakulnukroh, Penpak Sirikul and Bong the elephant,” said Tan on her Facebook page.

POP AYE is a roadtrip film following a disenchanted Thai architect and his elephant as they make a redemptive journey back to their hometown.

Earlier this year, Tan’s debut feature won the Special Jury award in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition for its screenplay at Sundance Film Festival, along with the VPRO Big Screen Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
