The Arts House Limited (AHL) announced that their new festival director for the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) is Gaurav Kripalani. His appointment will take effect from 1 May, 2017.

Kripalani is currently the artistic director of Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT), a position he will continue to hold even as he helms SIFA. He is known for taking Singapore theatre to new heights, including championing outdoor theatre performances with Shakespeare in the Park, commissioning and producing the successful Forbidden City musical, as well as bringing SRT’s Golden Child production to Broadway where it earned three Tony Award nominations.

Kripalani says, “It is an honour to be passed the baton to helm Singapore’s premier arts festival. Keng Sen [outgoing festival director] has done a stellar job and I hope to reach the high expectations that have been set. I look forward to reaching out to artists, locally and internationally, in order to achieve the Festival’s goal of pushing the boundaries of perception in the multi-disciplines. I look forward to welcoming the world to Singapore and Singapore to the world.”
