During the Asia TV Forum and Market, it was announced that Singapore’s Brainchild Pictures and China’s Beijing Film Academy will be co-producing a film “The Wayang Kids”, which is due to be released in the first quarter of 2018.

“The Wayang Kids” is about a group of children who overcome cultural and language barriers to represent their school in an international Chinese opera performance. The film hopes to expose children to different cultures and mother tongue languages in Singapore, while also promoting values such as resilience, strong family ties and racial harmony.

This is the first ever Singapore-China family movie co-production, and is supported by the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism. The young cast was selected from 500 students from over 20 primary schools, and filming will take place in Singapore and Beijing.
