The St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is one of the largest music festivals in Singapore that brings in some of the best indie music acts from around the world. It’s back for its 7th year this Jan 21 with five local acts in its mix. Here’s what you can expect from three of them on stage.

TRIPPY TUNES: ASTREAL Post rock, shoegaze and noise pop
One of Singapore’s longest-lasting indie bands (they’ve been around since 1992), Astreal is finally making a comeback after a three-year hiatus with a new album out around the same time as their Laneway gig.
This band has Ginette Chittick on vocals and bass, Muhammad Alkhatib on guitars, Jason Ang on keyboards and Joseph Chian on drums.
SLICK BLUES : SAM RUI R&B
At just 20 years old, Sam Rui is on the brink of stardom with her debut EP coming out this February. Her sweet-tinged-with-sultry vocals have won her a following on YouTube and her latest single, Better, topped Spotify’s Singapore Viral 50 charts late last year. Rui’s transition from folksy indie covers to collaborating on original R&B numbers has made her a musical force to be reckoned with.
A MIX OF EVERYTHING : T-REX Jazz, progressive metal and post-rock
It’s hard to pigeon-hole T-REX to a particular music genre but one thing’s for sure: their eclectic, textured music make amazing live gigs (especially since they also seamlessly swap instruments during performances).
T-REX comprises guitarist Ahamd Khaliq, bassist Azel Serik, dummer Junaidi Kusnong, and saxophonist Bryan de Rozario.
The St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is back this Jan 21 2017 at The Meadow, 10am till late. Get your tickets here.
