According to the station’s statement on their Facebook page, they “have not managed to grow the base of listeners enough to sustain the operating costs of the station”. Mediacorp said in their press release that this upcoming closure is part of a “rationalisation of its network of radio stations”.
Over its 13 years of operation, Lush 99.5FM has developed a loyal core of followers with its focused efforts on Singapore music, art and creative community at large (#lushloveslocal). The station is helmed by programme director and musician Vanessa Fernandez and its DJs include Rozz, Elias Soh, Chris Ho and Tracy Phillips.
Meanwhile, the Lush 99.5FM crew will continue to promote homegrown musicians and indie music through a Singapore Sounds project which will feature on 987, 938LIVE and the 8days.sg website.
