Event Details

The new series of deciBels (published by Vagabond Press) highlights voices of poets from the Philippine archipelago as well as from the neighboring region of Macau. The voices, as expected, are wonderfully polyphonic—from tones that capture the rich, formal cadence of rhyme and meter to improvisatory streaks of utterance that push against the limits of white space.

Join us at BooksActually, and be accompanied by the voices of poets Paul Maravillas Jerusalem & Rodrigo Dela Peña, Jr. as they bring you through their stories, ‘In Between Tongues’ & ‘Hymnal’ respectively.

* Paul Jerusalem is a Singapore-born Filipino who is an undergraduate student at Yale-NUS College, a liberal arts college in Singapore, where he is a major in Literature. His works have been published by the Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, and appeared in Likhaan 10: The Journal of Contemporary Philippine Literature, SingPoWriMo 2016: The Anthology, and ASINGBOL: An Archaeology of the Singaporean Poetic Form, among others. In Between Tongues is his first chapbook.

* Rodrigo Dela Peña, Jr. is the author of the chapbooks Requiem and Hymnal. His poems have been published in QLRS, SingPoWriMo, Rattle, Likhaan, Kritika Kultura, Hayden’s Ferry Review, and other journals and anthologies. He has received prizes from the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards, Kokoy F. Guevara Poetry Competition, British Council, Meritage Press, among others. His first full-length collection, Aria and Trumpet Flourish, is forthcoming from Math Paper Press.
