Passionate, mercurial and stoic – that is Wu Guanzhong’s image painted in broad strokes across numerous exhibitions and biographies. Yet, as one of twentieth century’s most significant artists, Wu is also a playful spirit, a masterful conversationalist, a warm friend and a loving family man. This solo photography exhibition by Cultural Medallion recipient Chua Soo Bin, staged for the first time in Singapore and Southeast Asia, depicts lesser known aspects of Wu’s life – his creative journey, inspirations and relationships. Unfurling alongside this collection of almost 60 intimate portraits is a deep friendship between two prominent artists of our time – one painting with ink and oil and the other with light – that traversed time, distance and geography. Learn more about the lives of the two artists in the two dialogue sessions and exhibition tours.
