Confluences and Diversities in Southeast Asian Art features 15 artists from Singapore, Vietnam and Myanmar. Southeast Asian art in its contemporary form is as diverse as the many lands, languages, cultures and nationalities that it is comprised of. Yet there are many meeting points, where artists’ thoughts and creative energies cross the lines to connect. Our histories, in particular Singapore, Vietnam and Myanmar do bear thematic links. There is resonance in the many themes in this exhibition – being/living in a safe space, isolation and individualism, freedoms and control, issues of gender and women, personal and local histories.
Confluences and Diversities in Southeast Asian Art will be displayed at the ION Art Gallery from 12- 21 May 2017.
