It’s a true CNY hub over at Chinatown as the whole precinct welcomes the Year of the Dog with a bang. The Street Light-Up at night is already up with over 2,188 handcrafted lanterns. Look out for the 88 larger-than-life dog lanterns done by the students and faculty from Singapore University of Technology and Design. There are also Chinatown Chinese New Year Walking Trails with seasoned volunteer guides, a Festive Street Bazaar with over 420 stalls and Nightly Stage Shows with mask-changing and ventriloquist performances. The Chinatown Chinese New Year Countdown Party featuring Mediacorp artistes will take place on 15 Feb, Chinese New Year Eve.
The Official Light Up and Opening Ceremony marks the opening of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2018. The event continues to awe visitors with entertaining performances by both local and China leading performing troupes. Together with spectacular firecrackers and fireworks display, it will bring the opening ceremony to a greater height as we usher in the Year of the Dog.
The official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony will be followed by 7 weeks of street light up along the streets of Chinatown. The light-up will feature handmade sculptured lanterns of dogs, flowers and greetings. Combining traditions with modern design, visitors will be enthralled by the creativity of the contemporary street light-up design.
