The Singapore Design Week takes place next month with a broad range of programmes that highlight the importance of design in people’s everyday lives. Here are some SDW events which we think will definitely spark your creative juices!

5 – 18 March 2018, 9am – 9pm
National Design Centre

This year’s exhibition curated by PRODUCE design studio centres on “A State in Play” and shows how just playing, exploring, experimenting can lead to unexpected outcomes. Look out for the “Formica for More” than what it is being typically used for. There’s also Masak-Masak, a prototypical food stall which takes reference for the beloved childhood cooking game. Visitors can start “playing” with modular objects to design a space for cooking and serving food to customers.

6 – 8 March 2018
Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Brainstorm Design is a cutting-edge new conference in Singapore that will be bringing in some of the biggest names in the business world to provoke discussions about business and design. Find out how many of the world’s leading companies are discovering the transformative power of design being a crucial part of corporate strategy with speakers such as Kristina Blahnik, CEO of Manolo Blahnik; Joe Gebbia, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Airbnb, as well as celebrity architect Ole Scheeren.

The popular Design Trails by Shophouse & Co are back with a brand-new name and format! There are three tours – The City Ramble Heritage brings you to sites rich in architectural heritage and the key figures in shaping Singapore’s urban landscape; The City Ramble Process brings you through the design process through personal encounters with designers’ spaces, dialogues and workshops; and a DIY option by grabbing a copy of The City Ramble Stories, a guide from which you can explore Singapore’s creative life at your own pace.

10 – 18 March 2018
Holland Village

The creative bohemian enclave of Holland Village will be transformed into an experiential platform where over 50 independent vendors from fashion, food, music and craft will take over 10 black-and-white terrace houses at Chip Bee Gardens. This community event put together by creative agency HJHER, lifestyle consultancy Est. and media network Underscore, provides a space for more collaboration and innovation amongst the different design fields. Besides installations, exhibitions, workshops and stalls, there will also be programmes for children, so do bring your whole family along!
