The Arts House turns 13 later this month and is throwing a huge HOUSE PARTY. As part of their birthday bash, there’ll be a wide variety of arts activities lined up during the weekend of 25 and 26 March. Here are our picks for some fun in the House!

Watch winning entries from the Singapore Heritage Short Film Competition 2016 and gain a better appreciation of artistic and cultural practices that are soon to be forgotten, such as Chinese opera and traditional analogue photography. There will also be post-show dialogues with winner Eileen Chong and first runner-up Saleem Hadi.

Enjoy a weekend sunset lounging about the lush Empress Lawn while taking in some jazz.  The line-up includes guitarist Andrew Lim, Nicole Duffell Trio featuring Christy Smith, and Ragha Jazz.

This unique performance produced by poet Marc Nair pairs ten different poets with ten musicians. As Nair says of this musical dialogue, “There is music in poetry and poetry in music.” Featured poets include Aaron Lee, Christine Chia, Deborah Emmanuel, Pooja Nansi and Yong Shu Hoong.

PET ME, PET ME, LOOK AT ME, LOVE ME

17 March – 12 April, 10am – 8pm
Free Admission

Explore notions of intimacy and longing by Singapore-based photographers Liana Yang and Lavender Chang. At the same time, Yang and Chang will explore the written word in their artistic practices with local authors O Thiam Chin and You Jin respectively (which you can register for here).

This interactive space by 3 Pumpkins Projects in collaboration with visual artist Mei gets visitors to listen to sound artist Zai Tang’s city soundscape, Sonorous City. While listening, visitors can create playful landscapes using geometric shapes, lines, found images and letters.

SHAPESHIFTER STORIES

Let master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran take you through spellbinding ancient tales of transformation, where mortals, animals and spirits morph and mutate to pursue desires and dreams. Her storytelling will be accompanied by live music by Derrick Tay.
