Music lovers – it’s time to get pumped with this year’s Baybeats line-up of folk, metal, post-rock, emo, punk, electro and everything in between! Here’s what you can expect:

International Acts

Don’t miss Rag n’ Bone from Australia, a band that has won the Western Australian Song of the Year award for two years running and thrives on emotionally-charged live performances. There’s also Qu (pronounced “cue”) from Japan, a Japanese instrumental rock band fronted by a human beatbox, and alternative band F16s from Chennai, India with their melancholic music that grapples with the mundanity of everyday life.

Local Favourites

The five-piece instrumental rock outfit Amateur Takes Control is officially back from a three-year hiatus with noisier, darker and more aggressive music while legendary band Astreal delivers more of their edgy, discordant melodies. Fuzz pop quintet Obedient Wives Club is also back at Baybeats this year with new songs from their new five-track EP Cinematica in July.

Budding Bands

The Baybeats Budding Programme has discovered and showcased many up-and-coming Singapore bands since 2007. This year, over a hundred local bands auditioned for this programme, but only seven made the cut to be mentored to perform at Baybeats 2017. Look out for Decipher, a band that takes a storytelling approach to their post-hardcore/post-rock/alternative songs while Subsonic Eye is an alternative dream pop band that plays happy music for sad people.

Writers, Photographers & Video Artists

Besides musicians, there’s also a Baybeats Budding Editorial Team where young writers and photographers will be covering the behind-the-scenes activities at Baybeats. Meanwhile, final-year LASALLE Diploma in Broadcast students have taken on the roles of documentary producers and directors as they explore the local music scene. Here’s one of the videos done by them:
