National Gallery Singapore recently announced that they will be presenting a retrospective of renowned avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama from 10 June to 3 September 2017.
It is the first major museum exhibition of her work in Southeast Asia. Visitors will get a chance to go up close with 120 of her painting, sculptures, videos and installations that span seven decades. Kusama, 88, is best known for her motifs of dots, nets and pumpkins as well as the characteristic interactive nature of her spaces such as Infinity Mirrors and Obliteration Room.
This upcoming exhibition will also explore the global popularity of her work, and takes a look at her personal journey in defying societal and personal challenges to become a successful Asian female artist.
