There’s a whole lot of stunning art to appreciate at the opening of DISINI, Gillman Barrack’s first visual arts festival.

Head on over to DISINI (derived from ‘di sini’, which means ‘over here’ in Malay), the first large-scale and ground-up visual arts festival in this region! Organised by art gallery Chan + Hori in partnership with the National Arts Council, there are plenty of public programmes, outdoor artworks, and exhibitions from home-grown and international artists lined up these next few months. This cutting-edge festival will be opening with a bang this Friday 26 Jan, in conjunction with Art After Dark x Singapore Art Week 2018. Here are the highlights:

All day

The perfectly pink and pleasing DISINI Pavilion Launch opens to the public. Tip: we recommend getting your picture-perfect shots posing with this pretty installation by fashion collective MASH-UP during the day. This spot will be a venue for many DISINI events in the coming months!

SEVEN NEW OUTDOOR SCULPTURES

Be among the first to check out new outdoor sculptures at Gillman Barracks. Curated by DISINI Artistic Director, Khairuddin Hori, you can expect the unexpected, such as a psychedelic mural by superstar street artist Felipe Pantone, as well as an ornate public toilet by Swiss artist Maya Rochat.

PENSIVE PERFORMANCE ART

Look out for Pope Alice, an alien pope persona by artist Luke Roberts who will be putting up a performance titled “The Divine Cosmos”.  Meanwhile, Kachin artist Ko Z will be putting up “WAR”, a performance art piece that reflects the fear, pain and suffering of internally displaced persons living in camps in Myanmar.
